On Friday last, Adam joined Norah Casey of Newstalk Breakfast to discuss the role played by SNAs in the Irish education system, and indeed in his own education, and also responded to the news from the NCSE this week that outlined a 10% reduction in the provision of resource hours from September.
From the point of view of the AS community in Ireland, the importance of SNAs cannot be understated. We are committed to doing all we can to highlight the brilliant work conducted by so many SNAs across Ireland as well as educating the public as to the importance of their role in the education of people with Autism in mainstream education. In addition to this it is important that the role and recognition of SNAs within the Irish education system is explored thoroughly at this time of recession and the restructure of so many government departments, initiatives and services.
It is no doubt that the uncertainty regarding resource hours which has emerged in recent days has been a cause of concern for many readers. It is essential that in this uncertainty we continue to emphasise the vital importance of resource hours and special needs supports and so we would love to hear from any person with Autism or family members who would like to contribute a piece on their experiences.
