AsIAm aims to provide you access to the best information possible, in order to help you make informed decisions about various issues affecting those with Autism.
As part of these efforts, we plan to hold a monthly “Ask the Expert” Live Q&A here on AsIAm.ie. This will be an opportunity for you to speak with leading voices in the areas of healthcare, education, employment, parenting, research, sport, inclusion and community affairs.
To kick start this exciting new venture, we will welcome Dr. Caoimhin (Kev) Mac Giolla Phadraig to the site on Thursday evening at 8pm. Dr. Mac Giolla Phadraig is the Ussher Lecturer in Dental Public Health (Disability Studies) in the Dublin Dental University Hospital & Trinity College Dublin and also runs his own practice, which you can see at specialcaredentist.ie
On the night, he will join us in our office here in DogPatch Labs, from 8pm to 9pm, and we will accept questions as they are submitted through a special page on the website. We will also allow early submission of questions from Wednesday and we will ask as many as possible.
You will be able to follow the discussion live on AsIAm.ie or on Twitter using the #AsktheDentist.
All the answers on the night will come from Dr. Mac Giolla Phadraig, and any answers will reflect his views and experiences not neccesarily those of the organisation. AsIAm.ie will be providing moderation on the evening and will accept and put forward questions, from those that our submitted, at our absolute discretion
Do come along on the night and help us launch this new initiative in style!
About Caoimhin MacGiolla Phadraig
I graduated from Trinity College in 2002. Since then I have worked in private practice in the UK, New Zealand and Ireland. I also worked in the HSE as a dental surgeon, where I developed my interest in dentistry for people with special healthcare needs.
I worked in the University of Otago, New Zealand and the Dublin Dental University Hospital. I completed three year full time specialist training in Special Care Dentistry (D. Ch. Dent.) in Trinity College in 2002, graduating with first class honours. I currently work as an Lecturer in Dental Public Health (Disability Studies) in Trinity College and the Dublin Dental University Hospital.
My studies focus on improving dental services for people with disabilities in Ireland and the oral health of older adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) . I also research dental student attitudes towards people with disabilities and autism. I also research ways to improve the oral hygiene of dependent adults who live in long term care facilities. I specialise in treating people with autism.
I am an avid fan of the AsIAm.ie project because, like me, the AsIAm.ie team believe in taking responsibility for making a better future.
