Foróige, Ireland’s leading national youth organisation changing the lives of young people aged 10 to 18. Working through more than 5,300 volunteers and almost 350 paid staff, Foróige involves some 53,000 young people each year. This great team supports young people to make friends and have fun in a safe environment, build self belief, skills and a sense of community
Foróige have a network of over 600 volunteer led youth clubs and cafés across the country. Foróige, in association with Aspire Ireland, have developed two new clubs in South Dublin county, for teenagers experiencing Autism / Dyspraxia. One of these clubs, based in St Michael’s House in Templeogue, has been running since February this year. This club meets on Monday evenings from 7:30-9pm and caters for teens from 12-16 yr olds. The purpose behind this club is to provide a safe, welcoming space for teens to make friends and socialise, in a environment where they are accepted for who they are. The Templeogue club, known as the Ultra Fusion Club, is managed and developed by a team of trained and vetted volunteers, all whom have a vested interest and shared vision of this club and the young people it caters for. The club have achieved many great things in it’s short life span already. All activities are carefully considered, in consultation with parents / guardians and the young people themselves, in order to match the interest and capacities of the group itself. Activities have ranged from playing snooker, quizzes, Easter Treasure Hunt, Comic Art Workshop, Light Saber Battles and trips to mini golf and bowling.
Foróige are now preparing to open an second club, to replicate efforts underway in Templeogue, in St Michael’s House Goatstown, with the intention of opening up a new club for 12-16 yr olds in October (date still to be confirmed) The club night will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9pm and will cater for 12-16 yr olds in addition.
If you would like to find out more about this club for a young person or if you might have some time and interest to get involved as a member of the volunteer team, please do get in touch! Volunteers are the lifeblood to these initiatives so we really do need any individuals who can step forward to do so! Volunteers must be at least 18yrs old. Foróige will ensure all volunteers will receive standard volunteer training and will process volunteer application forms and Garda Vetting forms.
SAVE THE DATE! AsIAm.ie (in association with Aspire Ireland) will be running a special 2 hour training / orientation programme on Wednesday 3rd September, 7:30-9:30pm in St Michael’s House Templeogue, for existing and new volunteers to attend. This is separate to Foróige’s standard volunteer training for new volunteers. Foróige’s first volunteer training and induction sessions will be taking place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October in the city centre (venue to be confirmed) – both days 9:30-4pm.
