AsIAm Launches Bridge Forward Programme

Recently, AsIAm obtained funding from the Late Late Toy Show Appeal to the amount of €100,000 to fund the Bridge Forward project: the newest of our autism training programmes.

The Bridge Forward programme was designed in response to the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on community participation for autistic children and their families. Many autistic people and their families found their already restricted opportunities to participate in their local communities reduced even further. The aim of the project is to train qualified facilitators to go on and train others. Each of the facilitators will then train 3 community group leaders in their locality in the Bridge Forward programme.

The aims of the workshops will be to teach strategies promoting positive self-esteem and confidence in autistic children and young people in getting back out into community activities such as sports clubs, drama groups and community centres. This will allow a far greater number of community workers and social groups to benefit from autism friendly practices and further AsIAm’s ongoing goal of promoting greater community inclusion for autistic people.
