This talk will be given by Dr Linda O’Rourke and Joan McDonald.
Dr Linda O’Rourke is a dual qualified Consultant Psychiatrist with specialist training in general adult psychiatry, psychiatry of intellectual disability and autism. She is the Director of Core Clinical, a specialist multidisciplinary team providing assessment, diagnosis, intervention, therapy and support to adults with neurodevelopmental conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Dr O’Rourke will discuss:
- Why might a person reach adulthood without being diagnosed
- What features may warrant further assessment
- What an assessment entails
- Mental health and autism
- Treatment of mental health conditions
Joan McDonald is a sister to a man with classic autism, a teacher, former Special Educational Needs Officer (SENO), and has an M.Ed. in Autism. Since her own autism diagnosis, Joan went on to found the social media group Autistic Paddies, for autistic adults in Ireland.
