Housing and Disability Steering Groups  Call for Autistic Members

Housing and Disability Steering Groups (HDSGs) have been established across the country to allow for an integrated and strategic response to the needs of disabled people at local level. The group offers a platform where the relevant stakeholders can discuss, plan, and implement key actions as part of the Local Strategic Plan for housing for disabled people and providing an improved basis for planning and service delivery. The groups meet on a quarterly basis to discuss their progress, and these meetings can be in-person, hybrid, or online, depending on the preference of attendees.

The members of these groups are made up of local authority staff, Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs), HSE staff, Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs), and Disability Sector Organisations. An important part of this structure is the representation of disabled people, and the current National Housing Strategy for Disabled People 2022-2027 aims to ensure the representation of Disabled Persons Organisations at Housing and Disability Steering Groups across the country.

The Housing Agency is currently reaching out to Disabled Persons Organisations (such as AsIAm) to see if we have members in various local authority areas who are interested in being members of the HDSG’s and in representing autistic people at these groups.

If you have an interest, please contact [email protected] in AsIAm for next steps with the subject line “Expression of Interest”. Please note participants must be over 18. Expressing an interest does not guarantee a place on the Housing and Disability Steering Group. AsIAm has no say in the recruitment process, this is the prerogative of the Housing Agency.
