Sophia started an internship at AsIAm in June 2019 as part of her Employment Based Training course at the National Learning Network. She quickly became part of the team, and now works in the Administration department. Her role involves producing Autism I.D. Cards and assisting in the organisation of fundraising events. She also helps to coordinate the Youth Leadership Team and Youth Ambassador programmes.
Sophia was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome when she was ten years old but struggled to understand and accept the condition for many years. She is delighted that she can now use her experience to encourage other autistic people to be themselves and nurturing autism acceptance and inclusion in the wider community.
When she is not working, Sophia enjoys spending time volunteering at her local thrift shop, upcycling old materials and walking her dog Bonnie on her family’s farm in County Wicklow.
