For ten years, AsIAm has been a powerful movement for change for the Autism community in Ireland. From humble beginnings as an online platform designed to share information and experiences, AsIAm is now Ireland’s National Autism Chairty, working to transform society so it works for Autistic people and their families. Our exponential growth has been made possible by our generous supporters and partners who believe in our vision for a more inclusive Ireland that accepts every Autistic person as they are. As well as the donations we receive, some of our most loyal supporters know that leaving a legacy or a bequest in their Will is the one opportunity they have to make a special gift to a cause close to their hearts, like AsIAm. Some may have been given an Autism diagnosis themselves or seen a family member or friend experience the stigma, discrimination and lack of opportunities faced by many people in the Autism community. Others may have seen the transformation that has occurred when people are given the Same Chance as everyone else. Whatever your motivation, a gift in your Will, will cost you nothing now but it is a gift that will change thousands of lives into the future.
In Ireland, over 70% of people die without preparing an up-to-date legal Will. This can cause unnecessary stress for family at a time when they are already grieving.
The good news is that it is simple to set up and execute a Will with the help of a solicitor. This important act will give you and your loved one’s peace of mind that everything is in order and your wishes will be carried out after your passing.
Once you have taken care of your loved ones, a gift in your Will to AsIAm will help your values live on and positively impact people with Autism well into the future. This special commitment will show the people you care about what’s important to you and how you’d like to be remembered.
AsIAm believes that everyone has the right to live, work, learn, grow and participate in society. As an Autistic-led charity, we provide empowering educational, recreational and employment programs to help people to reach their full potential but we also work at a policy level to challenge the systems that limit opportunities and accessibility. A generous legacy to AsIAm will help ensure that we can constantly evolve and bring the very best services and supports to our community.
There are different ways to remember AsIAm in your Will. If you’re not sure what isbest for you, speak to your solicitor who can help point you in the right direction. As a guide some of the most common ways to make a bequest include:
Once you have taken care of your family and friends, you can leave a share of, or the remainder of your estate to AsIAm. This is called a residuary gift.
You can choose to leave AsIAm a specific amount of money in your Will. This is called a pecuniary gift
You can choose to leave AsIAm a specific item, such as jewellery, stocks and shares or even a property when making a Will. This is called a specific gift. In whatever way you decide to leave your legacy, when you include a gift in your Will to AsIAm, you join a special community of our most loyal and valued supporters who believe everyone deserves the same chance.
