We are receiving a high volume of email queries as regards the date we will launch the new AsIAm ID card process. Please note that we will update the website when we have this date.
Please note that we are redesigning and upgrading our ID card systems so the service is currently unavailable.
If your card is out of date and you will be using it in the next 12 weeks, we will be able to provide you with a letter to accompany your ID card, which details the card is valid. Please email admin@asiam.ie if this is the case.
Many thanks and good wishes
The AsIAm ID card costs €25 and come with an AsIAm Lanyard and card protector. This cost covers admin, printing and equipment.
Yes. You are required to complete the application and the cost is the same due to admin, printing and equipment. In place of proof of diagnosis, you have the option to upload a picture of the previous AsIAm card.
Childrens cards are valid for 3 years.
Adults cards are valid for 5 years.
The card serves as a proof of diagnosis and you can use it when interacting with different service providers, including public servants and those working in private businesses. Any support provided is at the service’s discretion.
It does not automatically entitle cardholders and/or their companions to discounts or preferential treatment over other customers, though AsIAm is currently engaging with numerous businesses and service providers to provide certain supports and benefits to cardholders.
In order to be eligible for an Autism ID Card, proof of diagnosis will be required.
The waiting time for ID cards is up to 4 weeks. If your application is missing the requested information, please expect a delay. Please do not order an ID card if you require it in a shorter time frame than 4 weeks, as we cannot guarantee delivery.
The purpose of the applicant's formal confirmation of diagnosis is to support the integrity of the card and prevent abuse of its use. We accept the following formal confirmation of Autism diagnosis:
- Headed diagnostic or therapeutic report confirming person's diagnosis of Autism from a psychiatrist, clinical or educational psychologist, paediatrician, speech and language therapist, and/or occupational therapist. The report must on headed paper, and must include the section where the professional confirms the person is Autistic.
- Headed letter confirming the person's diagnosis of Autism from a psychiatrist, clinical or educational psychologist, paediatrician, speech and language therapist, social worker, GP, physiotherapist and/or occupational therapist. The letter must on headed paper, and must include the section where the professional confirms the person is Autistic.
These may be scanned and uploaded with the initial application. They will be appropriately destroyed as soon as the card is produced and will not be re-used or shared with any third party.
We will also require a picture of the applicant, with guidelines set in the application process.
All residents of the island of Ireland, including those living in Northern Ireland, may apply for and use the Autism ID Card.
We will accept a diagnosis from any resident of the Republic of Ireland and/or Northern Ireland. However, we must stress that recognition of the document is at the discretion of the service.
However if you live outside of the Island of Ireland unfortunately we will be unable to issue an AsIAm Autism ID Card.
As we delete personal data once you have received your card (e.g., photo, proof of diagnosis), it isn't possible to renew cards without a full application. You can apply for a new card using this link
