Are you an Autistic parent or carer of a child attending primary school in Ireland?
Geraldine Hetherton, a researcher from Maynooth University is carrying out a study to learn more about Autistic parents’ experiences of engaging with schools — the supports, challenges, and opportunities that shape those relationships.
Your voice and perspective are central to this research. The aim is to build understanding and promote more inclusive school practices that work for Autistic parents.
What Participation Involves, if you choose to take part:
All interviews will be confidential and anonymised, and participation is completely voluntary.
By sharing your lived experience, you can help highlight what works - and what needs to change - in how schools connect with Autistic parents, for better understanding and inclusion.
If you’d like to learn more or express interest, please contact:
Geraldine Hetherton, School of Education, Maynooth University by email: geraldine.hetherton.2024@mumail.ie by 30 January 2026
You’ll receive an information sheet explaining the study in more detail to help you decide whether to take part.
The study is designed to be neurodiversity-affirming and flexible. You can choose the communication format that works best for you (e.g., written, voice, or video).
If you need any adjustments or specific supports, please just let the researcher know.
This project has received ethical approval from the Social Research Ethics Sub-Committee, Maynooth University.
