AsIAm and DRCC launch landmark research into consent and the Autistic community

AsIAm is proud to partner with the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC), RCSI and We-Consent to conduct Ireland’s first comprehensive research into Autistic children and adults’ experiences and understanding of consent, and their right to protection from sexual harm.

This research aims to:

  • Bridge gaps in accessible consent education and communication
  • Empower Autistic voices to shape an inclusive, evidence-based framework that informs safe consent  practices

Researchers are inviting two groups to take part in a short, 15-minute online survey:

Young Autistic Adults (Aged 18–25)

Participants should be:

  • Aged 18–25 with a formal or self-diagnosis of Autism
  • Comfortable discussing topics related to consent, sexuality, autonomy, and safety

Take the survey for young Autistic adults

Parents or Primary Caregivers of Autistic Children (Aged 9+)

Participants should be:

  • Parent or primary caregiver of an Autistic child aged 9 or above
  • Comfortable discussing topics related to consent, sexuality, autonomy, and safety

Take the survey for parents/guardians

The findings will help researchers design clearer, safer, and more inclusive consent education tools for schools, clinicians, and families. This project is supported by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC).
