Policy & Advocacy

Since AsIAm was founded in 2014, we have been campaigning to transform Irish society so that Autistic people and families have the same chance. Speaking to our values of perseverance, service and same chance, our policy team advocates on behalf of the Autistic community to support in bringing about real change as envisioned under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).    

The policy team campaigns to change society’s attitudes towards autism and Autistic people, and for changes to laws and policies so that Autistic people and families are treated as full and equal citizens in Irish society. Our policy and advocacy work are guided by the lived experiences and perspectives of Autistic people and families, ensuring our community’s voices are at the core of shaping laws, policies and supports which affect Autistic life in Ireland.  

Submissions

AsIAm writes policy submissions to Government to reflect Autistic experiences and recommend policy changes to address barriers within Irish society.

UNCRPD and DPO's 

As a Disabled Persons’ Organisation (DPO), AsIAm works with DPOs to make sure that Ireland implements the UNCRPD and advances disability rights.
